Goa CM condemns attacks on churches in Sri Lanka

Panaji, Apr 21 (UNI) Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday condemned attacks on churches in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday and said he had spoken to State Director General of Police Pranab Nanda instructing to him beef up security around churches in the state.

Speaking to reporters at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State Headquarters in the city, the Chief Minister said,"I have spoken to DGP about enhancing security of Goa's churches. I will be speaking to archbishop soon."

The Chief Minister said he would soon be speaking to Archbishop Fr Filipe Neri Ferrao over security arrangements to be done at the churches in the state.

At least 140 people were killed and more than 500 hospitalised in multiple explosions that hit two Catholic churches in Colombo as worshipers gathered in large numbers to attend the Easter services.

A total of six blasts reportedly took place in Sri Lanka, hitting three churches and three hotels in the country's capital of Colombo and other cities, local media reported.

Goa hosts 17th century churches which are endorsed by the UNESCO.
