Pragya’s remark on martyr officer Karkare stirs up hornets’ nest

Bhopal, Apr 19 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Bhopal parliamentary constituency candidate sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur’s statement vis-a-vis Ashoka Chakra-recipient Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Hemant Karkare, who attained martyrdom after being shot thrice in the chest while combating perpetrators of the 2008 Mumbai attacks as Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief, has triggered a maelstrom of controversy.
A video going viral on social media on Friday shows Ms Thakur speaking about Mr Karkare.
Ms Thakur spent a considerable amount of time in ATS custody after being charged in the Malegaon blasts. During those days, the IPS officer interrogated her. Since she was announced as the saffron camp’s nominee, Ms Thakur has been making comments regarding that remand period.
At a BJP workers’ convention late Thursday, she alleged that Mr Karkare troubled her during questioning and at that juncture she told him, “Tera sarvanash hoga (You shall be devastated).”
