Two DySPs, four civilians among many injured

SRINAGAR: The violence marked the polling in Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency, with two Deputy Superintendent of Police among several security personnel suffering injuries in heavy stone-pelting at various place.

In security forces’ action, at least four youth are reported to be injured, one of them critical.

Clashes broke out between security forces and stone pelters who tried to disrupt the voting process in Batmaloo area of Srinagar city, Pandach area of Ganderbal district and at four other places in Badgam district in the Srinagar seat, officials said.

“During the election process, security forces came under severe stone pelting from miscreants who had congregated at various places. However security forces while dealing with such hostile stone pelting mobs exercised utmost restraint,” an official spokesman said.

Consequently, several police and security force personnel including 2 two Deputy Superintendents of Police and several other cops got injured due to stone pelting.

A constable identified as Muzamil Ahmad 836/AP 5th battalion also received injuries at his leg during stone pelting at Boys Higher Secondary School Chrar-e-Sharief of district Budgam in central Kashmir.

Three civilians were injured in security forces’ action on stone-pelting mob in Hafroo village of Chadoora area of Budgam district.

In another incident of stone pelting at Hyderpora, a civilian driver identified as Mohammad Yaseen Dar aged 22 years sustained critical injuries in his head.

“He is undergoing treatment at a hospital and is stated to be critical,” the spokesman said.

“Security forces exercised utmost restraint while dealing with hostile stone pelting mobs and it was due this that the polling process concluded peacefully today.

“The administration therefore appeal people to cooperate with the officials in discharging the lawful duty of conducting poll in a peaceful manner and elements involved in such unlawful activities shall be strictly dealt under law,” he added.
