Army Major slips to death in Kupwara

SRINAGAR: In a tragic incident, an Army officer died after falling into a gorge near the Line of Control (LoC) in Machhil sector in Kupwara district.

Major Vikas Singh(30) had slipped into a gorge and suffered critical injuries during a patrol along the LoC in Machhil sector on Saturday, and succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, an Army official said.

“Troops of 57 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) were patrolling forward areas in upper reaches of Kumkadi forests in Machil sector. A Major, identified as Vikash, slipped and fell into a deep gorge, resulting in injuries to the officer,” he said.

The officer was rushed to a hospital from where he was shifted to the Army's 92 base hospital at Badamibagh Cantonment here, he said.

However, he succumbed to injuries at the hospital on Sunday, the official said.
