District adm organizes voters’ awareness programme

KATHUA MARCH 23: To ensure larger participation of voters in the ensuing Lok Sabha election, a series of activities under Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) were organised at Tehsil Nagri of Kathua by the district administration to motivate the general masses.
The activities included Run for Democracy and a demonstration on the functioning of EVM and VVPAT machines which were aimed at informing, educating, motivating and facilitating voters to ensure maximum participation in the election which is healthy for strengthening the democracy.
SSP Kathua, Shridhar Patil said that programs under SVEEP are very helpful to tap the new voters in the age group of 18-19 years, promote greater awareness amongst youth and students about electoral process and to seek their assistance in facilitating voter registration. He further said that it is the responsibility of every eligible citizen to enroll themselves as voters. Voters’ participation in the electoral process is integral to the strengthening the democracy. The level of voters’ participation reflects the people’s level of confidence and trust in democracy, SSP added.
ADC Kathua, Ghansham Singh said that SVEEP initiated new measures related to voter facilitation in areas of registration, issuing voter identity cards and suggests ways and means to make the election process voter friendly. These initiatives include Voters’ Helpline numbers, searching name in the Voter list through internet and SMS, Voters’ Facilitation Booths, Ideal Polling booths, EVM/VVPAT familiarization camps, Voter Slip, Expanding the I-Card basket i.e., making other identity proofs (apart from EPIC) as a valid proof for voting.
PO DRDA, Amar Jyoti Raina, CEO Kathua, Prem Nath, Tehsildar Nagri, Suninder Jeet Kour, EO Nagri Municipal committee and large number of locals were present on the occasion.
