SRINAGAR: A policeman was injured when militants on Friday allegedly attacked senior Congress leader and Anantnag Municipal Committee chairman Hilal Ahmad Shah in south Kashmir district of Anantnag.
Official sources said that Personal Security Officer (PSO) of Shah was wounded when militants allegedly attacked the Municipal Committee chairman at Town Hall in Anantnag on Friday.
The injured cop, Arshid Ahmad, was rushed to a hospital, they said, adding the gunmen managed to escape from the spot during the chaos created due to the firing.
“Security forces have been rushed to the area and a search operation has been launched to nab the attackers,” they added.
"Terrorists opened fire on a police official near Court Road at New Townhall in Anantnag district," a police spokesman said.
He said local police unit visited the spot and is investigating the incident.
A case has been registered in this regard, police added.
