IUST reopens after remaining closed for 4 days

Srinagar, Mar 23: The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora in south Kashmir, reopened on Saturday after remaining closed from March 19, when a Principal of a private school Rizwan Asad Pandit died in the custody of Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police.

The university suspended all semester examinations and classes as a precautionary measures due to very tense situation at Awantipora, the home town of Rizwan who was teaching Chemistry in the university last year as guest lecturer.

The university had postponed all semester examination which were scheduled to be held on March 19, 20 and 22. New dates for postponed papers would be announced later, university officials said.

On Saturday, examinations were held as per schedule and university operated buses on all routes.

Death of Rizwan in SOG custody evoked condemnation from mainstream and separatist organisations.

However, the authorities have already ordered Magisterial probe while police has also started investigation in the death of Rizwan.
