1.82 L first time voters to exercise franchise in J&K

Jammu: Over 1.82 lakh first time voters will exercise their franchise and are likely to play key role in upcoming elections of six Lok Sabha constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir.

As per data, 1, 82, 182 people, who fall under the age group of 18-19 years, will caste vote for the first time in upcoming general election 2019.

“The majority of first time voters are college students and they are energetic. They play critical role in the elections. They can decide the fate any candidate,” a local political leader said.

As per the special summary revision of 2019 by Election Commission of India (ECI), the total number of voters stood at as 78, 50, 671. Out of total electors, 40,37,993 are male voters and 37,39,951 are female voters. Apart from this, 72,727 are service voters and 29,305 are specially abled voters.

However, in 2014 Lok Sabha election, the total number of voters emerged as 72,02,163. Out of total electors in 2014 Lok Sabha elections, 38,0,2,021 are male voters and 34,400,142 are female voters.

The data accessed by The News Now reveals that total 6, 48,508 fresh voters enrolled in Jammu and Kashmir excluding service voters. Out of total fresh voters enrolled 2, 35, 972 are male and female voters increased by 3, 39, 809.

This time enrollment of new women voters is much higher than male. The female voters outshine male voters by 1, 03,837.

The state has 29,305 specially abled voters. However, in earlier report The News Now reported that around 1.77 lakh specially-abled in the state won't even get to excercise their franchise in the upcoming general elections.

The Jammu and Kashmir election Commission claims to made special arrangements for Person Vith Disabilities (PWDs).

“We have made special arrangements for specially abled voters. All the facility will be provided to these voters. The concerned District Election Officers ( DEOs) have been asked to all necessary measures” Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Anil Koul said.

Jammu & Kashmir will vote for Lok Sabha elections in five phases. The polling dates are April 11, 17, 24, 30 and May 7.

Polling in Anantnag will take place in three phases – a first for any constituency.

The polling in Anantnag, Lok Sabha seat would take place on April 23, in Kulgam on April 29 and in Shopian and Pulwama on May 6.
