Alleged Mass Copying in SI recruitment

JAMMU: In the latest development in alleged mass copying at one of the examination centre set up for the recently held Sub Inspectors recruitment examination, the Police Headquarters is all set to file an urgent memo in the Court as it has claimed to have acquired the CCTV footage of the examination centre in question.

The statement on the part of the senior police officers in the PHQ came at the time when protests started erupting in Jammu raising fingers at the transparency during examinations.

“We have taken the CCTV footage of the very examination centre which is in question of mass copying to produce the same to the court and for this, the department is all set to file urgent memo as the next hearing is to be held in mid-July,” said a senior police officer in PHQ, adding, “not only the examination centre in question, the department has also acquired the CCTV footage of all the examination centers.”
“After going through the video analysis, we have arrived on the conclusion that on an average, 12 to 18 percent candidates have qualified written test and no examination centre has exceeded the average. The data itself speak that no mass copying has taken place in any examination centre,” he said.

The senior officers further said that totally 2200 candidates had qualified for interview and out of which 473 were declared as selected. They said that to restore the transparency, the JKP hired a Hydrabad based company for recruitment and each and every recruitment steps right from Physical Efficiency Tests were under gone under CCTV cameras. To claim total transperancy during recruitment process, the officers said that the written tests were taken on OMR sheets having four series (A,B,C and D),leaving no scope of mass copying.

Asked about the complaints of mass copying, the officers in PHQ said that persons who have claimed of mass copying are those who did not fall in merit. “ Why they did not lodge complaint of mass copying during written exams earlier, as there was ample time between written examinations and interview”, the officers questioned.

Pertinently, the selection list of 473 was stayed on the allegations of mass copying. The petitioners through their counsel had submitted before the Court that the higher officials have facilitated mass copying in one of the centers where 620 candidates appeared, out of whom 499 were shortlisted for interview and wherein 185 candidates have been selected and 39 have figured in the waiting list.

Another ground which the non-selectees have taken with regard to “bad selection” by the higher official is that no CCTV technology has been used to video-graph various stages of recruitment for maintenance of backup of the record and tracking of activities at various recruitment centers as was necessary in terms of advertisement notice itself.

Petitioners in the present case are seeking quashing of selection of 473 candidates reflected in the selection list as also the selection of candidates who appeared in the examination center situated at Channi, Jammu wherein as per the petitioners mass copying has taken place.
