Day curfew relaxed in Jammu, overall situation peaceful

Jammu, Feb 20: Life limped back to normal after the Jammu district administration on Thursday relaxed day curfew as people responded peacefully to the phase-wise curfew relaxation yesterday.

All government and private schools reopened almost after a week but colleges remained closed as preventive measure.

Section 144 CrPC remained imposed while the mobile internet service has also been restored.

IGP, Jammu, Manish Kumar Sinha has asked the people not to use internet facility for rumour mongering and warned that anybody found indulging in it will face action.

District Magistrate, Jammu, Ramesh Kumar said that the day curfew, which was relaxed up to 1400 hours, has been extended till 1800 hrs.

He said that schools and offices have resumed their normal working adding that Section 144 remains in force.

Curfew was imposed in Jammu on February 15 after violence erupted during a daylong shutdown call by the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries to protest the Pulwama terror attack in which 44 CRPF personnel were martyred.

The curfew relaxation passed off peacefully in all the police station areas of Jammu District, said an official.

The examinations of higher secondary school class, scheduled for February 23 and 26, have been postponed but the papers from March 1, will be held as per schedule.

The commercial transport also hit the streets on Thursday.
