DC Rajouri launches ‘Shaan-e-Jamhuriyyat Express’ to create awareness among voters

RAJOURI, FEBRUARY 20: With an aim to provide relevant information on EVM and VVPAT among voters in view of forthcoming general election 2019 in the state, 4 voter awareness vans under the banner of ‘Shaan e Jamhuriyyat’ were flagged off by District Election Officer Rajouri Mohammad Aijaz from the DC office complex today.

DEO said the objective of the awareness van to make potential voters aware of the EVM and VVPAT. The staffers of the voter awareness van would explain the various mode of operation of EVM and VVPAT among people who would use their voting right.

He said this awareness van would venture in their assigned constituency for the next 20 days. Voter awareness van would continue to venture for 20 days in all assembly segments of the district. The staffers accompanying the van would enumerate upon the working of EVM and VVPAT to voters and also would distribute publicity material among people belonging to all sections of society. These vans are equipped with all the relevant material, machines and public address system.

The chief objective behind the movement of voter awareness van is to educate potential voters as mock voting at optimal places would be carried out to make voter comprehend the system of voting through EVM and VVPAT in assembly elections. The voter awareness van has been sent to make voters aware and learn about the mode of use of EVM and VVPAT during voting.

The public will be able to use the VVPAT attached with the EVM in the vehicle to see if their vote has been registered properly. After pressing the button for a particular candidate on the EVM, the user will be able to see a paper slip is generated in the VVPAT for seven seconds to verify the vote. The slip will show a serial number, and the name and symbol of the candidate selected, before falling into a bin. It is pertinent to mention here that the VVIP (voters verification and information Programme) has been launched in the district.
