Srinagar, Feb 20: With an eye to clear about 1,800 pending passport cases, the Regional Passport Office, Srinagar, has launched a passport adalat in Kashmir division to mitigate the issues confronted by applicants, who have applied for the travel document till December 2017.

''We have started a special drive -- under the name of ‘Passport Adalat’ -- to clear the pending passport cases, some of which are lying here since 2008,'' Regional Passport Officer (RPO) Brij Bushan Nagar told TNN.

Mr Nagar said some of these cases, which are pending for many years, could be resolved easily and the applicants would receive their respective passports within days. ''There are some cases in which an applicant has just to come to our office and sign few papers. In some other cases, applicants have to submit supporting documents. Once these formalities are fulfilled their applicants will receive their passports within days,'' he said.

He said there are some applications, which are pending since 2008 due to minor formalities. ''So, keeping in view these cases, we have decided to hold a Passport Adalat till February 28, 2019 during which applicants can approach us and we will mitigate their issues,” he said.

Mr Nagar said anyone can come to my office and meet me in person to get their issues resolved on any working day. “We have sent various letters to such applicants but they have not responded to our repeated communications,” he said.

He said if these applicants fail to contact us till February 20, they will have to once again apply for a passport and go through the entire process again. “The drive is to help these applicants to get their passports without any hassle,” he added.

The PRO said if anyone wants to get in touch with me directly, they can contact with me on the Facebook page of Passport Office Srinagar (www.facebook.com/psksrinagar). “I personally monitor this page and people can easily from the comfort of their homes contact me through this page,” he added.
