Illegal miners booked, six arrested, vehicles seized in Reasi

Jammu, Feb 12: Police on Tuesday booked illegal miners and arrested six persons while their vehicles were seized in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.

''Continuing the drive against illegal miners, acting on a tip-off, a police team, went to Anji Nallah, where the illegal mining was taking place despite being banned by the order of District Magistrate, Reasi,” police spokesman here said.

He said that the police arrested six persons, mostly drivers and labourers of tippers and tractors, were held while they were loading their vehicles with riverbed material (Sand, pebbles).

The arrested persons were identified as Anil Sharma of Suketer, Ashiq Ali of Kayala, Junaid Mohd of Dassanoo, Matbir Hussain Mohd Latif and Mohd Haroon, all residents of Dassanoo.

A case under relevant section was registered and investigations started, the spokesperson added.
