After 7-year long struggle illegal constructions halted

Rohingias are rehabilitated at encroached site,Army apprised, DC gets construction work stopped

JAMMU: Seven years after the complaints of illegal constructions along the Chowadhi-Sainik Colony nallaha, the authorities finally got up from the slumber and got the construction work stopped.

“ The construction work along the nullaha has been stopped”, said DC Jammu when contacted.He said that a police team from Police Station Channi was directed to get the construction work stop following which the crack down was laid.

“Based on the direction of the DC Jammu a revenue team led by SDM South and Thsildar Bahu along with the police rushed to the spot and got the construction work stopped. The construction which was raised by two brothers namely Ashiq Hussain and Zakir Husain of Gangyal, however, claimed that the land is belonged to them.

The duo brother was directed to produce their documents before the Naib Tehsildar Bahu for verification, while residents of the area said that High Court has ordered to demolition of the encroachments as the land belonged to the water bodies I,e Irrigation and Flood Control”, said a revenue officer when contacted.

The High Court of Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir had also ordered demolition of the construction along the Chowadhi-Sainik Colony nallah to the Chief Engineer Flood Control and Irrigation over the instant case following which a contempt notice was also issued.The Chief Engineer apprised the court that he did not get it demolished owing to the shortage of manpower following which court directed revenue department to take action.

While the case was under court’s consideration , the residents of the Shivalik Enclave at Sainik Colony, made representation to the Sunjwan Army Commander and apprised him that the encorachers have rented out the encroached nullaha to hundreds of Rohingias which is posing serious threat to the residents of the area in general and army in particular.

“ Since the encroachment of nullaha is being done near the army camp, therefore it posed a serious threat to the army as already a militant attack had taken place on the very camp”, the residents of the area apprised.

The alleged illegal construction along the nallah was started way back in the year 2012 and came to limelight when a lady DySP namey Shahsi Thakur, who is also residing adjoining to the encroached nullaha, had scuffle with the encroachers.

In the year 2013, a case in this connection was filed to the High Court by the residents of the area alleging there in that encroachment along water body is being done with active connivance of police and revenue officers.
