Opposition uniting to save themselves, BJP uniting the nation: Modi on Mamata’s rally

Silvassa, Jan 19 (UNI) In a scathing attack on a grand rally organised by Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Bannerjee in Kolkata, also attended by leaders of opposition parties, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday here said that they (opposition) came together to save themselves while he was moving ahead with the motto of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ to save the nation.

“They have assembled in Kolkata to save themselves while I am moving ahead with the motto of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' to save the country,” the Prime Minister said while addressing a rally here.

Ms Baneerjee’s rally--United India Rally--in Kolkata, was seen as a dais for Opposition unity for taking ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in upcoming Lok Sabha polls, as it was attended by Opposition.

Mr Modi said that the steps taken by his government for poor and middle class showed that the BJP was working with the motto of development of all, with participation of all, but Congress which led the government for decades used to see the possibilities to ‘benefit’ their family alone.

“They used to focus more on their names rather than the work. My government has changed this and focused on work and not any name. Most of the welfare schemes like Ayushman Bharat, PM Ujjavala Yojana, PM Jandhan Yojana, PM Mudra Yojana, PM Krishi Sinchai Yojana have nowhere the name of Modi tagged with them. It shows that our intention was the development of people and not of any one family. For us all the 125 crore people of India are our family members,” Mr Modi said.

The Prime Minister continued his attack on Congress and said, “They (Congress) were feeling pained as to why Modi was changing their old ways, acting tough against corruption, eradicating the middlemen in the power corridors who used to snatch the rightful shares of poor.”

“I am asking you whether the country should be freed from corruption and such things or not?” the Prime Minister asked to the people in the rally.

The Prime Minister further said, “They (Opposition) are angry with me and due to this anger, they are now somehow trying to form a grand-alliance. The situation was such that those who earlier used to criticise Congress all the time have now come at one stage,” Mr Modi said.

Mr Modi said that the grand-alliance was not only against Modi but against the people of the country.

“The irony is that even as they have not come together properly, they have already indulged in bargaining and give and take kind of things,” the Prime Minister alleged.

The youths, farmers, women and the first time voters; all are seeing it minutely and they can't be fooled, Mr Modi said.

“While my day starts with the resolution of welfare of 125 crore people of India and when I go to bed to sleep at night after a day-long perspiring hard work, I feel satisfied but their (Congress and other opposition) world is confined to the welfare of their families alone. They don’t have any vision for the future of India while I am trying to make it the best country of 21st century,” Mr Modi claimed.

The Prime Minister also claimed that the Opposition’s ‘selfish’ and ‘anti-Modi’ politics can hit the headlines in media but these ‘destroyers’ won’t ever be able to get a place in the hearts of people. “Rejection from people, have made them desperate,” Mr Modi alleged.

Commenting on Mamata’s rally, Mr Modi said although there was only one BJP MLA, but to the fear of BJP entire opposition from across the country has assembled.

“The sole BJP MLA has disturbed their sleep. We are the followers of truth and all the wrong-doers have assembled and giving a call to save them from us. I congratulate my MLA and the people of Bengal for this,” he alleged.

Hitting out at Left parties, Mr Modi said that they were showing ‘dictatorship’ everywhere.

“In Bengal, they ban the political activity of a party and resort to all sorts of undemocratic things and now the same people have assembled to talk about democracy. When I see the map of Bangal, I remember the throttling of democracy and how even those who filed nomination papers in Panchayat election were murdered,” Mr Modi alleged.

The Prime Minister further alleged, “Now when such (Left) people assemble, there in the name of rescue of democracy, people only exclaim - what a scene!”.

Mr Modi laid the foundation and dedicated developmental works of more than Rs 1,400 crore including that of the first ever medical college in this union territory to be set up at a cost of Rs 200 cr and will be having 150 seats initially.

The Prime Minister also elaborated on the developmental works done by his government in Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli--the two adjoining union territories of his home state Gujarat.
