ERO reviews progress on Special Summary of Electoral Rolls at Anantnag

ANANTNAG, JANUARY 18: Electoral Roll Observer Shahid Inayatullah today chaired a meeting of the officers to review the progress on the special summary revision of Electoral Roll of Anantnag district.
The District Election Officer, Mohammad Younis Malik gave a detailed account of the status of progress, claims and objections, updation of the database, EPIC status, and other details, besides, highlighting the issues in uploading the database on ERO Net. The meeting was informed that 58 polling stations have been added recently which has enabled to identify 714 polling stations at 432 locations. The DEO further informed that the process of summary revision is being carried under proper monitoring. He added that there is a notable increase in the number of electorates during the past few years. He also said that District Contact Centre on Call Centre pattern with four trained operators have been established with a toll-free contact number 1950 for the quick redressal of electorate grievances.
The DEO also said that Voter Awareness Forum (VAF) is an informal forum for generating discussions and awareness about the electoral process. He further said that VAFs will be constituted in all the departments at the district level for facilitating the electoral process. He added that due to the efforts of various agencies related with election process 28000 new entries have been recorded.
On the occasion, the electoral roll observer said that additions and deletions need to be done with greater care as a single vote decides the fate of the candidates in the democratic process. He stressed upon coordination between the administration and various political parties for the successful and transparent poll process.
The ERO urged to take every necessary step for enrolment of an eligible person as electorates and generate awareness through camps and events at Tehsil levels among new and young voters about voting and voting rights.
Among others, the meeting was attended by ADC Anantnag, ACR Anantnag, Dy Election Officer Anantnag All SDMs and Tehsildars, other senior officers and representatives of some political parties.
