Traffic police Jammu Rural have started scores of initiatives to maintain a better relationship with common man for the last couple of years in many ways like launched many special drives against the violators of traffic laws.The main objective of the such drives is to aware the general public and youths regarding traffic rules like wearing a helmet, avoiding overtaking, overloading, control over speed, avoiding triple riding wearing seat belts, avoiding driving on the wrong side, avoiding use of tinted glasses, avoiding drunken.The drives were successfully conducted in all the districts which comes under Jammu Rural like Samba, Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch and covered various far flung areas which includes school also.

According to the official information, a total of 219907 no of vehicles were challaned from 01/01/2018 to 31/12/18 and fine of Rs.41005990/- were received from defaulters. Moreover, 4991 vehicles, including two wheelers/three wheelers, have been seized by traffic Rural Jammu during the said time period. Also, 99 driving license/route permits have been recommended to concerned RTOs for suspension /cancellation for a period of not less than three months w.e.f. 01.01.2018 to 31.12.2018.

It is pertinent to mention here that out of total vehicles challaned and fined in 2018, about 45 to 50% belongs to Pir Panjal region i.e Rajouri and Poonch. Similarly, 91 FIRs have been lodged in concerned police stations against overloading from 10.10.2018 to 31.12.2018. Moreover, 12 dockets were also sent to concern police stations for lodging FIRs against violators.

Talking exclusively to The News Now, Mr.Mushtaq Choudhary, SP, Traffic Jammu Rural said that 45 special drives were also launched from 01.01.2018 to 31.12.2018 against various visible offences like Crash helmets, seat belts, triple riding, use of mobile phones, over speeding/ dangerous driving, over loading etc.And to create awareness among the general masses, 94 "Traffic Awareness Programmes" have been conducted by traffic Rural Jammu in the schools, on roads, at Bus stands among rural stakeholders and also counseled the pedestrian, passengers, drivers and parents of minor drivers regarding road safety during 2018-19.

"We have had highest no.of challans in 2018-19 which was 2.5 times more than previous years and was highest since 2009.We will work with more zeal and our efforts will be more with enforcement and education to ensure safety of road users.Traffic police would continue to act tough against the people found violating traffic rules and drive continues in future too",added Mr.Choudhary.
