Youth planning to join militancy arrested with grenade in Kupwara

Srinagar, Jan 18: Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday claimed to have arrested a youth who was intending to join the militant ranks in frontier district of Kupwara, a police spokesman said.

Acting on a tip-off, police established a check point in Lolab in Kupwara district this morning. During the checking, police arrested a youth, identified as Mohammad Aslam Beigh, a resident of Maidanpora after one grenade and other incriminating material were recovered from his possession.

During interrogation, Beigh admitted that he was planning to join a militant outfit. He further informed the police that they were planning attack in Kupwara town.

The spokesman said he further revealed that he was motivated to join militancy by entities based in Pakistan through social media.

A case FIR No. 6/2019 under relevant sections has been registered in P/S Kupwara in this matter, he said.
