Hurt in Tral encounter, CRPF man succumbs

JAMMU: After battling for life for nine days, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) trooper wounded during an encounter in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district earlier this month succumbed to his injuries on Monday.

Constable Mahesh Kumar Meena (39) had sustained a bullet injury in his neck during a gunfight in Aripal on January 5.

He was shifted to army’s 92 base hospital Srinagar for treatment, from where he was airlifted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi’s Trauma Centre for advanced treatment.
However, on Monday, Meena succumbed to his injuries at AIIMS, PRO CRPF Kashmir Sanjay Sharma said.

It may be recalled that on January 5, an encounter took place in Arpal area of Tral area of Pulwama district, in which Meena, a CRPF trooper of 180 Bn suffered bullet wound in his neck, even as holed-up militants escaped from the encounter site.
