Winter coaching a huge success; Education Deptt refutes news report

SRINAGAR, JAN 14: The School Education Department Monday refuted a news report appearing in a section of the press regarding winter tutorial programme in the State.
In a statement released, a departmental spokesperson said the winter tutorial programme for students of Classes 8th to 10th has been launched after doing wide publicity through print and electronic media.
"After the proper screening, as many as 61731 students were enrolled in 639 centres which are established to impart winter coaching. These students have been enrolled through a transparent process," he said.
He added that the report has been published without making any effort to check these details from the School Education Department.
While denying the contents of the news report, the spokesman said the winter tutorial programme has been a huge success with a large number of students benefitting from free winter coaching. He said adequate arrangements have also been made for classroom heating at all the centres in view of the harsh weather conditions.
Giving further details, the spokesperson said 374 winter tutorial centres have been set up to impart coaching to 53325 students. He further stated that 265 centres for remedial teaching have also been established enrolling further 8406 students under an appropriate monitoring mechanism. This, he said shall cater to those students who need individual attention and grooming so that they are well prepared for future.
In addition to above, 2426 students belonging to under privileged sections of society have been sponsored for free coaching in private registered coaching centres under 10% Govt Quota. Similarly, under Super-50 initiative, 15 hundred students are being provided free coaching in various professional courses and civil services (KAS/IAS) in the centres established at all district headquarters.
