Urban Mulberry Plantation: Drive to plant 2000 trees starts in Kathua Town
KATHUA, JANUARY 14: - A drive to plant over two thousand highly improved trees was launched under the Urban Mulberry plantation drive, here in the Municipal limits of this town.
Under urban Mulberry plantation, educational institutions and other protected establishments and vacant state land will be covered under the drive, said Director Sericulture, Gulzar Ahmad Shabnam after launching the drive.
Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC), Kathua, Dr. Shubhra Sharma and District Sericulture Officer Anju Koul and Senior Officers of District Administration and Sericulture Department were present.
Director Sericulture explained a number of advantages of urban Mulberry plantation and said that to involve local residents in the drive, the department will provide free of cost Mulberry plants and technical assistance at their doorsteps.
He appealed the urbanites to avail the benefits of this programme and join Sericulture Department in beautification and maintenance of healthy environment in the cities and towns.
Additional District Development Commissioner appreciated the initiative as a viable gesture to reshape the urban landscape and ensure sustainable healthy environment. She said that concerted efforts to facilitate such programmes shall have long lasting effects for eco conservation and beautification of cities and towns.
District Sericulture Officer enumerated the various facets of Urban Mulberry plantation. She said that all the stakeholders shall have to work in mutual mode for better upkeep and maintenance of urban mulberry wealth and motivate urban populace for venturing in profitable sericulture activities.
Later a vehicle loaded with highly improved Mulberry Plants was flagged off for free of cost distribution among the households, Institutions and Government Establishments within the town.
