Jammu celebrates Lohri with fervour

Jammu, Jan 13: The festival of Lohri was celebrated with traditional fervour across the state on Sunday.
Various social, religious and political organisations celebrated Lohri, which marks the end of the harsh winter season in north India.
In the evening, residents of different localities will lit bonfires and offer prayers for prosperity.
People offer puffed rice, popcorns, 'rewards', sesame seeds and groundnuts to the bonfire, bidding goodbye to the cold weather.
Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik extended greetings to the people on the auspicious occasions of Lohri and Makar Sankranti,
In a message, the Governor observed that these two festivals are a tribute to the bounties of nature and also herald a change in winter moving towards Spring.
The Governor prayed for the well-being and happiness of the people and wished that these festivals would bring lasting peace and prosperity to the state.
