Barring Keran; dozens of far-flung, remote areas remain cut off in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jan 9: Dozens of far-flung and remote areas, including those near the Line of Control (LoC), remained cut off for the fifth successive day on Wednesday from their respective districts and tehsil headquarters in north Kashmir due accumulation of snow and slippery road conditions.

Traffic on the roads, connecting border town of Keran and Tanghdar, besides dozens of other villages, with district headquarters Kupwara was plying normally.

The traffic to these areas was resumed on Tuesday after remaining suspended for three day from Saturday, when valley received heavy to very heavy snowfall.

“Roads to Machil and Karnah remained closed for the fifth successive day on Wednesday, following heavy snowfall on Saturday,” a Police Control Room (PCR) official told UNI over phone from Kupwara.

Similarly, he said roads to dozens of other far-flung and remote areas also remained closed due to closure of many passes in north Kashmir following accumulation of snow.
