Restrain Advisor K’s suggestion to State Police

SRINAGAR: Advisor to Governor K Vijay Kumar on Sunday asked J&K Police to exercise restrain to avoid civilian casualties and collateral damage while carrying out anti-militancy operations and security related drills in Kashmir valley.

Advisor Kumar said this while reviewing Law and Order, other security related issues in Kashmir valley during a high level meeting at Police Control Room (PCR) in the summer capital, Srinagar.

The meeting comes a day after seven civilians were killed in clashes, which were triggered after an encounter ensued between militants and security forces that left three ultras dead on Saturday in south Kashmir district of Pulwama. An Army jawan was also killed in the encounter.

On Saturday, Governor Satya Pal Malik directed the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir to inquire the incident and suggest precautions to minimise civilian casualties in anti-militancy operations. He had directed the security forces to minimise the collateral damage during anti-militant operations.

“People-friendly measures should be implemented during such operations. The security forces and the administration should address the post operations complications,” Malik had said last night.

On Sunday, “Advisor Kumar took a detailed review of the latest security scenario and the situation arising due to the Pulwama incident in which seven civilian lost their lives during post-encounter clashes in Sirnoo area of the district,” an official spokesperson said

The Advisor discussed with the senior officers various measures undertaken to maintain Law and Order in the Valley.

Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh and other senior police officers briefed the Advisor regarding latest security scenario and other issues pertaining to the maintenance of Law and Order in the valley.

Addressing the police officers, Advisor Kumar stressed upon ensuring effective coordination and synergy between the security agencies.

He asked for exercising restraint, so as to avoid civilian casualties and collateral damage while carrying out anti-militancy operations, security related drills in the valley.

The meeting was also attended by ADGP Law & Order Muneer Ahmed Khan, IGP Kashmir S P Pani, DIG Central Kashmir Range, SSP Srinagar, SP South and other concerned officers.
