AAP slams Cong for recommending Kamal Nath as MP CM

Chandigarh, Dec 13 (UNI) The Aam Aadmi Party slammed Congress for putting forth the name of 1984 Delhi Sikh genocide accused Kamal Nath as Chief Minister of Madhya Pardesh and termed it as rubbing salt on the wounds of sikh victims instead of providing justice.

In a statement here today, Leader of Opposition Harpal Cheema said after 1984 genocide, name of Kamal Nath had figured prominently as accused of leading the groups attacking sikhs.

In the enquiry report of Nanawati Commission and two other enquiry reports Kamal Nath's name had prominently figured in the list of accused persons but no action had been taken against him during Congress rule in Centre and during the NDA rule of 10 years in which SAD was a part, instead the sikh victims were teased by awarding prominent posts in government and party level to main accused Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish Tytler.

The AAP leader asserted that it was clearly mentioned in Nanawati Commission report that on November 1, 1984 Kamal Nath was leading a crowd who attacked Gurudwara Rakabganj Sahib and put it on fire and killed many innocent sikhs.

He said that Nanawati Commission had not given him clean chit even in its final report.

He said that even prominent journalist Sanjay Suri had substantiated his claim that Kamal Nath was leading the miscreants in an affidavit submitted before Mishra Commission. Apart from this an eye witness, Mukhtiar Singh, had also accused Kamal Nath of directing the culprits killing the sikhs at that time. Even an English daily newspaper had reported his presence at site in its November 2, 1984 issue, he added.

The LOP said that in spite of all proofs, the Congress party continued awarding these accused leaders with the plum posts and asserted that AAP will strongly oppose such decisions. He demanded that Congress chief Rahul Gandhi should immediately reverse this decision which had caused a wide spread resentment among the Sikh community.

He also appealed to the Prime Minister to immediately reopen the cases against Kamal Nath and initiate a time bound inquiry, so that strict punishment can be given to the accused of sikh genocide and justice to the victims.

Mr Cheema also sought clarification from Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and Congress president Sunil Jakhar on it and reminded that during 2016, the decision of appointing Kamal Nath as in charge of Punjab had to be withdrawn after a strong resentment from Punjab people.
