Lok Sabha adjourned for day after pandemonium

New Delhi, Dec 13 : The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day on Thursday after members from Opposition parties including the Congress, TDP and BJP's ally Shiv Sena continued with their sloganeering and no business could be transacted amid din.

Papers were laid and the Zero Hour started but ruckus continued and repeated pleas by Speaker Sumitra Mahajan went in vain.

Members of the Principal opposition party Congress, TDP and AIADMK trooped into the Well raising placards and raising anti-government slogans.

Congress members raised the issue of Rafale deal while TDP members demanded Special Category status for Andhra Pradesh, Railway zone for Visakhapatnam and transparency in the execution of the Polavaram project.

Members belonging to the AIADMK raised slogans demanding justice for Tamil Nadu farmers living along the Cauvery delta.

Shiv Sena MPs staged protests demanding immediate construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. Their placards read 'Har Hindu ki yahi pukar, pahale mandir, phir sarkar' (every Hindu is demanding temple, first temple be made and other issues governance can come after that)".

During Zero Hour, Anandrao Vithoba Adsul of Shiv Sena raised the demand of construction of Ram mandir in Ayodhya.

'The government is in majority and four-and-a-half years have passed and still no initiative was taken by the Centre on the temple construction,' he said.

The BJP has forgotten its promise, he alleged adding that they assembled in Ayodhya on November 25 to reiterate their demand.

Mr Adsul said the government should bring an Ordinance if required.

Seeing the results of Assembly polls on December 11, he said, the government should take steps in this regard before the next General elections.

Meenakshi Lekhi of the BJP spoke for strengthening laws in rape cases.

The pandemonium continued and the Speaker adjourned the House for the day.

Earlier, the House was adjourned for the first time for about 10 minutes and then for about 20 minutes till 12 noon.

The members paid tributes to five Delhi police personnel and others who lost lives on December 13, 2001 when terrorists had attacked Parliament.

The Speaker said this occasion should also unite all countrymen and women in a purpose of unity to fight the menace of terrorism.

The House could not transact any business in last two days. On Wednesday too, no much business could be transacted except a brief zero hour mention by Akali Dal MP Prem Singh Chandumajra.

However, amid din The Dam Safety Bill, 2018 was introduced in the House.

The winter session of Parliament got underway on Tuesday and the House was adjourned for the day on the first day of the session after paying tributes to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee and others.
