Senior CPI leader U N Mishra dies

Patna, Dec 12 (UNI) Senior CPI leader and former editor of ‘Janshakti’ U N Mishra died in Bilaspur following his brief illness today. He was 84.
Mr Mishra breathed his last at a hospital in Bilaspur. He is survived by three daughters and two sons.
Mr Mishra was also a renowned social activist and actively participated in Bihar`s famous student movement of 1955.
After his graduation, he served the state government as a linguist in the state language department. Later, he worked as a technical officer in the state public works department.
Mr Mishra left government job in 1976 and joined ‘Janshakti’, a Hindi daily published from Patna. He became its editor in 1983.
He was twice elected President of Bihar Working Journalists Union (BWJU) and was founder president of Bihar Journalists Welfare Trust. He also authored more than a dozen books, mostly in Hindi including ‘Poonjivad mein Vishfot’, Iraq mein Tel Yuddha’ and ‘Bharat-America Parmanu Sauda’.
Mr Mishra`s last rites would be performed at Gulbi Ghat on the bank of Ganga river in the state capital tomorrow.
Meanwhile, BWJU president Nivedita Jha, general secretary Kamal Kant Sahay, Indian Journalists Union (IJU) secretary Shivendra Narayan Singh and a host of social and political activists condoled the death of Mr Mishra.
