Cong does not have mandate in MP, says BJP's state unit chief Rakesh Singh

New Delhi/Bhopal, Dec 12: The mandate could be clear but a possible post-poll alliance
and manoeuvring could still shatter Congress dreams of capturing power in Madhya Pradesh.

"Pradesh mein Congress ka janadesh nahi hae (Congress did not get a mandate in Madhya Pradesh)," tweeted BJP's Madhya Pradesh unit chief Rakesh Singh signalling clearly that all is not over yet.
He also claimed that several Independent and others are in touch with the BJP and a party delegation would try to call on the Governor Anandiben Patel for the future course of developments in the state.

Mr Singh's missive in microblogging site came shortly after Pradesh Congress chief Kamal Nath

said in Bhopal, "We have written to Governor to invite us to form Government".
BJP spokesman GVL Narasimha Rao said the Congress claims were premature as counting was still on and hence the request to the Governor may not have the legal sanctity.

All eyes thus would shift to Raj Bhawan in Bhopal as was perhaps the case in Bangaluru after the polls in Karnataka in May this year.

The Congress has made it as the single largest party in Madhya Pradesh with possible 114 seats while BJP could be a little behind at 109. The magic number is 216 in the 230-member assembly and thus all permutation and combination would be kicked off.

Hours before Mr Kamal Nath wrote his letter to the Governor, Congress president Rahul Gandhi had said in a rather enthusiastic mood: "This mandate is a message to the Prime Minister and the BJP that the people are not happy with them.....We have defeated BJP in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh".

In a series of tweets late evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said his party has accepted the mandate 'with humility' and also maintained that wins and defeats are part of life.
