Historic Jamia masjid reopens after remaining closed for one day

Srinagar, Dec 11: The historic Jamia Masjid in the down town, Srinagar, opened on Monday after remaining closed for a day as a precautionary measure to prevent any demonstration following strike call given by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) to highlight the alleged Human Rights (HR) violation in the Kashmir valley.

All gates of historic Jamia Masjid, stronghold of moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) chairman Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq, which were locked yesterday morning to prevent demonstrations, are open now, sources said.

Large number of security forces and state police personnel which had been deployed in the Jamia market and nearby areas since early yesterday morning have been withdrawn.

The Jamia market is open and large number of people, including foreigners, were seen there today, they said.

Meanwhile, normal activities resumed with all shops and business establishments opening and traffic plying on all routes normally in the down town. Government offices and banks were also functioning normally.
