JAMMU: The State High Court on Monday sought within four weeks from Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) the policy drafted on the issue of vendors and hawkers in the State, particularly those allegedly encroaching the old city markets and roads.
The court was hearing a Public Interest Litigation highlighting the illegal encroachments by the shopkeepers and other ‘unknown’ persons in the JDA Shopping Complex, Mohalla Old Hospital Road, Near City Chowk, Jammu, and also in the adjoining areas.
A Division Bench of the State High Court Comprising Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Tashi Rabstan observed that counsel for the JMC informed this Court that a policy stands drafted on the issue of vendors and hawkers in the State which is pending with Administrative Department of the JMC and sought time to pace the same on record.
Division Bench directed JMC to file policy within four weeks.
