Jammu: Polling is underway for the seventh phase of the panchayat polls across Jammu and Kashmir amid tight security.

Voting for this phase is being held at 2714 polling stations, with the majority of them in Jammu, whereas 576 are in the Valley. Officials have categorised a little less than 900 polling stations as hypersensitive.

Beating the winter chill, voters queued up outside polling stations in Jammu as well as the Kashmir Valley, to exercise their right.

Ganderbal and Bandipora, in the Valley, recorded 8.4 per cent turnout in the morning.

More than 5,550 candidates are contesting for 341 sarpanch and 1,798 panch seats in this phase.

The sixth phase was held on Saturday when 73.6 per cent voter turnout was recorded. Two more phases are left with the final one ending on December 11.
