WCD Minister wishes children with good health, safety and education
New Delhi, Nov 14: Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi blessed the children of the country with good nutrition(health), safety and education on the occasion of Children's Day.
Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter on Wednesday, Ms Gandhi wished all children loads of love and blessings.
'I and my Government have tried in four and a half years to make our children's lives even better and safer,' she said and outlined a few initiatives taken by the Centre for the welfare of children. Adoption has been made transparent and easy, she said.
'Our was the first government to give importance to nutrition of children. For the purpose, funds have been increased and wages of Anganwadi workers also raised,' she said.
A 24-hour Childline has been started to help distressed children, Ms Gandhi said. A Railway Childline has also been set up.
'Children who run away from home or are kidnapped and are being transported through trains, are helped through this facility and take back to their homes,' she said.
To stop sexual exploitation of children, the minister said, POCSO ebox have been set up. A new law has been made by the government, Ms Gandhi said, now, criminals who commit crimes on young girls will be hanged.
As many as 10,000 children homes were checked for the first time by this government to bring about improvement at these places, she said.
The WCD Minister wished that each and every child is 'suposhit, surakshit and susickshit (child gets good nutrition, education and is safe)'.
