Panchayat Polls: Phase-7 notified

SRINAGAR: Ahead of the elections to Panchayat in State, the Chief Electoral Officer Shaleen Kabra Friday issued the notification for the conduct of the seventh phase which will be held on December 4 to elect Sarpanches and Panches.

The notification has been issued for a total of 30 blocks in 15 districts of the state—16 blocks in 9 districts of Kashmir and 14 blocks in 6 districts of Jammu.

In Kashmir division, the notification has been issued for block Trehgam, Qadirabad, and Qaziabad in District Kupwara, Naidkhai in District Bandipora, Rafiabad and Pattan in Baramulla District, Safapora in District Ganderbal, Sukhnag and Parnewain Budgam District, Shadimarg in District Pulwama, Kapran and Hermain in District Shopian, Pombay in Kulgam District and Breng, Larnoo and Sagam in District Anantnag.

In Jammu Division, the Panchayati elections will be held in the seventh Phase in Block Ramban excluding Halqa Panchayat Dandrath-C (Dugson) in Ramban District, Mahore, Gulabgarh and Chasana in Reasi District, Samba, Nud and Sumb in Samba District, Suchetgarth, Bishnah and Arnia in Jammu District, Budhal, Rajnagar and Khawas in Rajouri District and Mendhar excluding Panchayat HalqaPathanateer in Poonch District.

According to the notification, the last date for making nominations is November 16, 2018 (Friday), the date for the scrutiny of nominations is November 17, 2018 (Saturday), the last date for withdrawal of candidature is November 19, 2018 (Monday), the date on which a poll, if necessary, shall be held on 4thDecember, 2018 (Tuesday) from 8.00 am to 2.00 pm, the date of counting is 4thDecember, 2018 (Tuesday) unless notified otherwise, and the date before which the election shall be completed on 17 December, 2018 (Monday).

Meanwhile, for the Phase-III of Panchayat Polls, 1371 candidates are in the fray for 553 Sarpanch Halqas and 5426 candidates for 4279Panch wards across the State after scrutiny of nominations. Voting and counting for Phase-III of Panchayat Polls-2018 is scheduled be held on 24 November 2018.

According to the Chief Electoral Officer, J&K, Shaleen Kabra, for Phase-III, 129 candidates are in the fray for 59 Sarpanch Halqas and 532 candidates for 455 Panch wards in district Kupwara; 18 candidates for 8 Sarpanch Halqas and 70 for 66Panch wards in district Bandipora; 51 candidates for 40 Sarpanch Halqas and 151 for 348PanchHalqas in district Baramulla; 20 candidates for 27 Sarpanch Halqas and 41 for 215Panch wards in district Ganderbal; 23 candidates for 32 Sarpanch Halqas and 84 for 272Panch wards in district Budgam; 11 candidates for 22 Sarpanch Halqas and 29 for 172 Panch wards in district Shopian; 4 candidates for 47 Sarpanch Halqas and 1 for 337Panch wards in district Kulgam; 90 candidates for 38 Sarpanch Halqas and 357 for 294Panch wards in district Kargil; 69 candidates for 32 Sarpanch Halqas and 240 for 234Panch wards in district Leh; 172 candidates for 56 Sarpanch Halqas and 793 for 406Panch wards in district Kishtwar; 126 candidates for 32 Sarpanch Halqas and 475 for 234Panch wards in district Doda; 49 candidates for 13 Sarpanch Halqas and 180 for 95Panch wards in district Ramban; 138 candidates for 32 Sarpanch Halqas and 613 for 256Panch wards in district Udhampur; 210 candidates for 47 Sarpanch Halqas and 782 for 353Panch wards in district Kathua; 162 candidates for 40 Sarpanch Halqas and 651 for 320Panch wards in district Rajouri and 99 candidates for 28 Sarpanch Halqas and 427 for 222Panch wards in district Poonch.

According to the CEO, for the Phase-II of Panchayat Polls, 1038 candidates are in the fray for 468 Sarpanch Halqas and 4165 candidates for 3610 Panch wards across the State for which voting and counting is scheduled be held on 20 November 2018.

Similarly, for Phase-I of the Panchayat Polls, 427 candidates are in the fray for 536 Sarpanch Halqas and 5951 candidates for 4048 Panch Wards in the State for which voting and counting is scheduled to be held on 17 November 2018.
