New Delhi, Oct 20: Efforts for building nationwide mass movement for restoration of pollution-free and richly-flowing Ganga--on the campaign initiated by Prof G D Agrawal during his 112 days hunger strike-, evoked good response with people organising Ganga satyagraha, yatra and other such programmes in different parts of the country.

The campaign that began with Ganga March from Kankhal-Haridwar under the aegis of 'Jal-Jan Jodo Abhiyan', 'Jal Biradari' and other outfits, has spilled over various states including Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and spreading into other regions, Waterman of India and Tarun Bharat Sangh chief Rajendra Singh said.

Dr Singh, who has been touring different states for coordinating the stir, told UNI on Saturday that the Yatra reaching the national capital from Haridwar would split into different smaller groups to proceed on assigned routes and destinations in different directions on October 23, from the Rajghat here.

One yatra would leave the capital on Tuesday for reaching Banaras on November 25 for attending the "Dharma-Sansad" in the pilgrim town. After making point for the Ganga in the meet for three days, this yatra would proceed for Prayagraj to avail opportunity in Ardh-Kumbha for highlighting the issue of the river, he said.

The efforts for building mass movement also evoked good response in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu during three-day programmes in Bangaluru and Chennai between October 17 and 19, Dr Singh added.

The programmes held included meets of activists from different places, satyagraha and candle march for the cause of the Ganga and homage to late Prof Agrawal (Swami Gyan Swaroop Sanand) who passed away at AIIMS Rishikesh last week on 112th day of his hunger strike, Dr Singh said.

Activists, who attended the meets in Bangaluru and Chennai, have resolved to hold Ganga Satyagraha and sit-in at rivers and water bodies in their respective areas for generating public awareness for the issue of the river, he said, adding that such programmes have already begun at some places.
