Anti-encroachment drive launched at Shopian

SHOPIAN, OCTOBER 19: District development Commissioner Shopian, Dr. Owais Ahmad today convened a meeting to review traffic management in the district.
In the meeting, the DDC directed Municipal Committee and Motor Vehicle Department to remove the encroachment on the busy roads in town and ordered strict action against the law violators, particularly in and around fruit Mandi of Shopian.
Among other officials, the meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Additional Superintendent of police Shopian, Assistant Regional Transport Officer Shopian, Executive Officer Municipal Committee Shopian, Fruit Growers President Shopian, Traffic Police Officials, Transporters and other officers of different departments.
Municipal Committee Shopian on direction of DDC launched a massive anti encroachment drive near fruit Mandi Arhama, Batpora bypass and other busy places. An official said that several encroachment structures and roadside vendors were removed from Mandi area to ensure smooth traffic movement and Mandi affairs.
Deputy Commissioner Shopian, directed the Motor Vehicle Department and Municipal Committee Shopian to not allow any heavy vehicles or loaded trucks to enter the jurisdictions of towns from 9 am to 5 pm. The Executive Officer Municipality Committee Shopian was directed to remove all the unauthorized street vendors infront of fruit mandi Arhama, Bypass-road, Shopian Srinagar road and other busy places of the town.
Motor vehicle department also fined 20 vehicles for violating laws and illegal parking. An official said that Rs 5000 were recovered from the law violators.
