SF burst teargas shells to disperse demonstrators in Srinagar
Srinagar, Oct 16: Security forces burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge at Soura to disperse stone pelting demonstrators who are trying to disrupt polling in Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Tuesday.
Official sources said that demonstrators, mostly youths hit the streets at Soura in the city outskirts, where polling was underway in SMC wards of Soura, Buchpora, Ahmad Nagar and Zakoora in the final phase of Urban Local Body (UBL) elections in the state.
The demonstrators pelted stones on security forces and state police personnel deployed in the area to maintain law and order during polling in Soura ward.
Security forces resorted to lathicharge which had no impact on stone pelting demonstrators as they were regrouping again, sources said.
Later security forces burst teargas shells to restore normalcy in the area. Clashes were going on when the reports last came in, they said.
