Mehbooba’s crocodile tears for dead Kashmiri militants worked in the past, won’t work again: Omar

Srinagar, Oct 16: Upping the ante at Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti over her comment that scholar-turned militant Mannan Wani was a ‘victim of relentless violence’ in Kashmir, National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah said that her fake sympathy and crocodile tears for dead Kashmiri militants worked for a few years, they won’t work again.
“How short Ms Mufti’s memory is! She forgets that she was the architect & beneficiary (it kept her allies in good humour) for her entire period in office. She is in no position to criticise anyone for relentless violence,” Mr Abdullah, who is the former chief minister of the state, wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
Mr Abdullah said Ms Mehbooba headed the Unified Command which directed the security forces to execute ‘Operation All-out’ and famously justified the killing of young protestors in 2016 saying “they aren’t coming out to buy milk or toffees”.
“Ms Mufti’s Govt made every effort to trap & kill Manan Wani coming close a few times. Her fake sympathy & crocodile tears for dead Kashmiri militants worked for a few years, they won’t work again,” he added.
Mr Abdullah was responding to the PDP president’s tweet which read, “Pushing youth to the wall will be counterproductive. Centre must intervene in withdrawing cases against students & AMU authorities must revoke their suspension. The respective State governments outside JK should be sensitive to the situation & prevent further alienation.”
“It will be a travesty to punish them for remembering their former colleague who was a victim of relentless violence in Kashmir,” Ms Mehbooba added.
Wani, who was a PhD scholar in AMU before picking up the gun in January 2018, was among two militants killed in a fierce encounter that ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) launched by security forces in Kupwara on October 11.
