Ganai has a suggestion for students

SRINAGAR: Exhorting them to prepare for the next Technological Revolution, Advisor to the Governor, Khurshid Ahmed Ganai on Sunday asked the students in the state to think of an unexplored world of many other professions beyond medicine and engineering—which, he said, have been conveniently forgotten.

Ganai, the only native of state, among the Governor’s team currently administrating the affairs of state, also urged the policymakers to put more efforts to linking education with employment and entrepreneurship, so as to ensure more job opportunities to skilled youth.

“The students need to think beyond the two professions of medicine and engineering and explore equally other attractive fields that tinkle our creative nerve.

“This perception has to change. There are many other professions which we have conveniently chosen to ignore," Ganai said, speaking at felicitation ceremony organised to acknowledge meritorious students who qualified NEET & JEE exams.

Asserting that the ongoing technological revolution would soon fundamentally alter the way we live and work and the students must be prepared to this unprecedented transformation.

“The new big things on the anvil are Artificial Intelligence, Big Data Analytics, Quantum Computing, 3-D printing, internet of things, robotics, autonomous vehicles and driverless cars. You are our future and must be prepared for it,” Ganai told the young students.

Asking the students and youth to develop entrepreneurial mindset, the Advisor said skilled youth can start their own ventures. "They can not only provide jobs to themselves, but also create employment opportunities for many others" he said, while urging the teachers to familiarize students with entrepreneurship and narrate to them the success stories of global entrepreneurs so that they get inspired.

The Advisor also pinpointed various schemes in the State and Central sector that can facilitate the youth in startup ventures.

He appealed to the teachers to improve the quality of teaching and sensitize students about modern challenges so that they prepare well in advance to face the onslaught of future technologies.

He asked Director School Education Kashmir to work on building capacities of Government teachers to improve the quality of teaching and suggested incentivizing good teaching in Government as well as Private schools.

While urging the educational institutions including colleges and universities to adopt research-based modules to develop scientific temper among students, Ganai placed high priority on applicability of modern sciences to find solutions to our local day-to-day problems like Solid Waste Management. He invited suggestions from students to address the issues confronting our society and contribute towards environmental protection.

Meanwhile, Ganai also urged policymakers to put more efforts to linking education with employment and entrepreneurship to ensure more job opportunities to skilled youth in the country.

"There is a need to improve policies which can give fillip to skill development programmes at colleges, schools, skill centres to produce skilled population for our nation.

"The policymakers should put more efforts into linking education with employment and entrepreneurship through skill development to ensure that our skilled youth can get jobs," Ganai said.

He said in the age of globalisation, skill building is important to boost efficiency and quality of services for economic growth.

Skills and knowledge are the driving forces of economic growth and social development for any country, he said.

"It is the endeavour of governor's administration to provide access to quality skill training at the local levels through short term courses as well as long term training," the advisor said.
