Traffic resumes on historic Mughal road; One-way traffic to ply on Jammu- Kashmir national highway
Srinagar, Oct 13: Traffic was resumed on historic 86-km-long Mughal road after remaining suspended on Friday due to slippery road conditions owing to fresh snowfall.
Meanwhile, one-way traffic will ply on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, a traffic police official said.
Two-way traffic was plying on 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh national highway, linking the Ladakh region with Kashmir valley.
In the morning traffic will ply from Drass and Kargil to Sonamarg in central Kashmir while later in the afternoon vehicles will be allowed to ply to other side of the Zojilla, a traffic police official told TNN.
He said traffic movement on Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region, was suspended yesterday due to overnight snowfall. With improvement in the weather conditions and clearance of snow, traffic was resumed on the road, he said adding light vehicles will ply from both sides while heavy vehicles will ply from Shopian to Rajouri and Poonch. No heavy vehicle will be allowed from opposite direction, he said.
The centre has already sanctioned the construction of a tunnel so as to make it an all weather road which otherwise remained closed during winter due to heavy snowfall.
The traffic official said only one-way traffic will continue to ply on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, which is the only all weather road connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country.
Today traffic will ply from Jammu to Srinagar and no vehicle will be allowed from opposite direction.
