'Morning Free Meals' scheme introduced in Govt School in TN
Coimbatore, Oct 2: For the First Time in Tamil Nadu, “Morning Free Meals” Scheme has been introduced in Government School at Urumandampalayam, near Thudiyalur in this district.
The new scheme was inaugurated during joint celebrations of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Karmaveerar Kamarajar 105th memorial day, Inauguration of Thiruvalluvar Statue, Planting Seedlings and Distribution of note books to the Government School students.
Industrialist C K Kannan told newsmen here that instead of giving Annadhanam in the temples it is better and very useful giving free meals to the poor school students.
He said "this school though has all the infrastructural facilities, only few students are studying. After the introduction of “ Morning Free Meals” scheme they expected more students will join this school.
Mr Kannan said we have also planned to create awareness among the parents to join their children in this school. As part of first step we have started this morning free meals scheme on the Karmaveerar Kamarajar memorial day".
The industrialist said in this new scheme, except in school holidays, in all the days egg, milk, idly, Dosai, Chappathi like nutrients food will be given to the students.
He said this is the first time in Tamil Nadu, this scheme has been introduced and "we hope this scheme will spread not only across the state, but also across the country".
For this scheme, private companies, NGOs and public should extend their support.
"We will also take efforts to start this new scheme in all the government schools here soon", Mr Kannan said.
