New Delhi, Sep 21: BJP leader Chandra Kumar Bose, also the grand nephew of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, on Friday demanded that there should be proper DNA test on the purported ashes of the Netaji.

He said to deal with fake ashes could be an act of 'sacrilege'.

"We appreciate the concern of UK MP Keith Vaz to bring Netaji's alleged ashes to India. I wish to inform that there's no conclusive proof that the ashes are actually Netaji's. Please conduct a DNA test first. It would be an act of sacrilege if we bring fake ashes," Mr Bose tweeted.

He also posted his missive tagging to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Speaking at a book release function in London, British lawmaker of Indian origin Keith Vaz said the Indian-origin parliamentarians in the UK will be "happy" to bring the ashes from Japan to India.

"I will try and get my colleagues to support this and it would be an easy task," he said, according to media reports.

'It is very important that we recognise the significance of having the ashes back in India where they truly belong,' he said at a discussion on the book ‘Laid to Rest: The Controversy over Subhas Chandra Bose’s Death’ written by Ashis Ray.
