Plea against ‘Manmarziyan’ in J&K HC over objectionable scene
Jammu, Sep 18: A Sikh organisation on Tuesday filed a petition against the movie ‘Manmarziyan’ in Jammu wing of Jammu and Kashmir High Court over an objectionable scene showing actor Abhishek Bachhan smoking after taking off his turban.
''A petition has been filed in the High Court here by Supreme Sikh Organisation through Counsel Advocate Aditya Sharma and Advocate Harpreet Singh Kang against screening of movie ‘Manmarziyan’ in state,” sources here said.
They said the Counsels have pleaded in the petition that in the movie the actors who are performing the character of Sikh couple, after solemnising marriage rituals in a religious place, goes out, removes his turban smokes a cigarette.
They said the petitioner has pleaded that it is in violation of fundamental right as enshrined in Art19 (2) and Art 25 of the Constitution of India as it had hurt the sentiments of Sikh religion at large.
''It was further pleaded that actors are the role models of the younger generation and if such acts objectionable are allowed in the religion, it gives wrong message in the society,” the petitioner said.
They also prayed before the Court that screening of the movie ‘Manmarziyan’ may kindly be banned and apology must be tendered by the Director besides Rs One crore compensation as fine may also be deposited in Chief Minister’s relief fund for Kerala Floods.
However, Director Anurag Kashyap, actors Abhishek Bachan, Tapsee Panoo have been made as party respondent while the matter likely to be listed next week.
