Jammu Traffic Police introduces "wrong parking clamps" for violators

Jammu, Sep 16: Against the backdrop of rising cases of vehicles parked wrongly or in "no parking" area, Jammu Traffic Police have introduced "wrong parking clamps" for the violators.

The "wrong parking clamps" is an instrument fixed in the rear tyres of the wrongly parked vehicles especially the cars after which it cannot move and will be set free only after paying the fine to the concerned officer on duty.

"We have introduced "wrong parking clamps" in view of mess created on roads due to vehicles parked haphazardly thus creating inconvenience to others," Joginder Singh, SSP Traffic Jammu here told UNI.

He said that initially the drive has been launched from Jammu city and will be further extended to other areas depending upon its success rate and requirement.

"People generally park their vehicles at random along the roadside thus causing inconvenience to others and sometimes the situation becomes unbearable for many," said the Traffic officer.

He added that once the clamp is fixed to the vehicle, the violator has to pay the fine to get it released, adding, "by this exercise other documents of the vehicle can also be scrutinised and he can be penalised accordingly if found guilty or having no proper documentation."

"A special squad has been constituted for "wrong parking clamps" drive being monitored by the Inspector rank officer while the Deputy Superintendents have also been provided the instrument for on the spot action against violators," the top cop said.

He further said that the traffic wing is making all efforts to streamline mess on roads.

"Every year at an average 40,000 to 50,000 new vehicles are hitting on the same roads, which are needed to be widened and other measures are also required to be taken for easy flow," he said adding that the agencies like, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Jammu Development Authority, BSNL, PDD, PHE and others are also being taken on board with a view to reduce traffic rush and find solutions to smooth drive for the people."
