JAMMU: A day after Station House Officer (SHO) Udhampur was removed and four constables were suspended after three detainees escaped from custody, the district Police Udhampur on Wednesday ordered another inquiry against Inspector Vijay Choudary, for allegedly hushing up a two-month-old case, in which one of the three detainees—a thief-- had already escaped the prison.

The thief in question, who was later rearrested, along with two drug peddlers, had broke the prison on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, following which SHO Udhampur Inspector Vijay Choudary was removed from his post while Head Constables Qasim and Parshotam, Special Grade Constable (SGCT) Des Raj and SGCT Daleep Singh were suspended and SHO V S Choudhary on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, the district police ordered enquiry against Choudary in a two-month-old case which he allegedly had hushed up.

“Nearly two months ago, one Mohammad Zahid, suspected to be a thief was nabbed from Chenani area and was made the subject of questioning in Udhampur Police Station. However, he fled from the custody but the matter was hushed up by the cops of the concerned police station,” SSP Udhampur Rayees Bhat told The News Now, adding the fresh inquiry has been ordered against then SHO Inspector Vijay Choudary in this case.

It may be mentioned here that on the intervening night of 10-11 September, Iftikhar Ali and Parvinder Singh alias Pammu, who were under arrest in NDPS cases, had fled away from the custody along with the theft suspect Mohammad Zahid, from Police Station Udhampur due to the grave negligence of the Sentry on duty.

Zahid allegedly had helped the drug peddlers to flee away from the Police Station by jumping the boundary wall taking the advantage of darkness around 0001 hours.
