People perform special poojas in temples to mark Janmashtami

Hyderabad, Sep 3: People irrespective of gender and age thronged temples to perform special Poojas besides to render prayers on the occasion of Janmashtami, the birthday of Lord Sri Krishna on Monday.

Several temples and religious organizations in Telangana conducted special bhajans and put up plays depicting important episodes from the life of Lord Krishna with tiny-tots dressed up like the Lord enacting the role of Balakrishna.

International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) organized shobha yatras in Hyderabad and Secunderabad in which thousands of people including women and children participated by chanting the mahamantra "Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna hare hare".

The tastefully decorated and illuminated ISKCON temples in the twin cities also arranged special poojas and bhajan programmes which drew unending crowds.

In a message, while greeting the people of two telugu states, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Governor ESL Narasimhan said that the festival of Janmashtami reminds us of the eternal message of Lord Sri Krishna through Bhagwat Gita, affirming the foundation for building a harmonious society.

The Governor wished that this auspicious occasion would be an harbinger of peace, progress and prosperity and further strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, amity and harmony in both the States.
