Kolkata, Aug 14: On the eve of 72nd Independence Day, the nation is all geared up to celebrate the day on August 15 with great zeal to pay tribute to the freedom fighters, who sacrificed their lives to liberate the country from the yoke of British servitude, and to take a pledge to work for the country's prosperity.
On this glorious day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoists tri-color national flag at the historic Red Fort in Delhi and addresses the nation by recounting previous year's achievements, discussing current major issues and future plans for the progress of the nation.
The address by Mr Modi will be his last before the end of his five-year term and he needs to win the 2019 Lok Sabha election to be back at the Red Fort on August 15, 2019.
Mr Modi has invited ideas for his Independence Day speech. In a tweet, PM Modi urged people to send in their ideas and thoughts about what people think he should include in his Independence Day speech.
“What are your thoughts and ideas for my 15th August speech? Share them with me on a specially created forum on the Narendra Modi App,” Mr Modi wrote on Twitter.
Over the years, he has invited ideas at various occasions about his speeches.
The Red Fort is illuminated with 2600 lamps ahead of 72nd Independence Day of India. With the unique lighting, the historic monument offers spectacular picturesque view to the commuters.
Every year, since Independence the Prime Minister of India addresses the Nation on this day from the Red Fort.
Red Fort, one of the famous tourist places in Delhi, holds significance in India's history, as first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru raised the national flag above the Lahore Gate. Since then, every year Prime Minister of India hoists the national flag (Tricolour Flag) at the main gate of the world heritage site.
