Charri-Mubarak taken to historic Shankarcharya temple on “Haryali-Amavasya”

Srinagar, Aug 11: The “ Chhari Mubarak”, the holy silver Mace of Lord Shiva was on Saturday taken to historic Shankaracharya temple on the occasion of ‘Haryali-Amavasya’ (Shravan Amavasya).

As per age old customs, the Chhari was taken from Deshnami Akhara, Maisuma, by Mahant Deependra Giri, custodian of the holy Mace to Shankaracharya temple today for prayers on the occasion of ‘Haryali-Amavasya’ (Shravan Amavasya) as per the age-old customs.

The sound of conch shell reverberated and charged the whole atmosphere. Pujan was performed chanting Vedic hymn. Sizable number of Sadhus and pilgrims who had come from across the country participated in the prayers that lasted for more than two hours. Collective prayers were also offered for peace and prosperity of the Jammu & Kashmir State, Mahant Giri said. He said the Chhari Mubarak will be taken tomorrow to pay obeisance to the Goddess Sharika Bhawani on the hill of Hari-Parvat, also known as Kohi-e-Maran, where the shrine of Hazrat Sultan-ul-Aarfeen is also located on other side while the Gurdwara Chatipadshahi on the main road of the hill.

As per the traditional rituals namely ‘Bhoomi-Pujan’, ‘Navgrah Pujan’ and ‘Dhawajarohan’ connected with commencement of annual Chhari-Mubarak Yatra was performed at Pahalgam on auspicious occasion of ‘Ashad-Purnima’ (Vyas-Purnima) on July 27. Later the Charri returned to Dashnami Akhara, Srinagar in the evening.

He said Chhari-Sthapana will be held at Shri Amareshwar Temple Dashnami Akhara Srinagar on Monday, August 13 2018.

After performing Chhari-Pujan at Dashnami Akhara Srinagar on the occasion of ‘Nag-Panchami’ on August 15,2018, Mahant Giri shall carry the Holy Mace to Holy Shrine to have ‘Darshan’ on ‘Shravan-Purnima’, on August 26. The Chhari will start return journey in the evening shortly after the sunset.

Meanwhile, ‘The True Trust’, founded by Mahant Giri in year 2004, shall make all the necessary arrangements like yesteryear for Sadhus and needy from the general public coming from across the country to join Chhari-Mubarak Yatra for their food, accommodation and transportation during the pilgrimage.
