JAIPUR: Senior Army officers have been asked to make suggestions on cadre restructuring in the force, a top commander said here today.

"There is a review which is going on but nothing has been decided, South Western Army Commander Lt Gen Cherish Mathson said when asked if the Army was considering the idea of cadre restructuring.

It is a thought process at this moment and under deliberation, and we all are to offer our recommendations," he told reporters on the sidelines of an Army-media seminar here.

The commander refused to divulge further details.

The Indian Army is said to be working on a major initiative which includes possible structural changes to make the force 'leaner and meaner'.
Sources said a high-level committee is expected to make recommendations on longer tenures for brigade, division and corps commanders.
The exercise is also aimed at bringing down the age of those commanding key formations, they said.

Lt Gen Mathson said stone-pelting incidents in Kashmir are now under control.

"Stone-pelting is certainly a challenge and it is for the civil administration to control them and now it has come under control," he said.
The officer also cautioned people against fake messages on social media.

He said enemy countries carry out information warfare through fake messages.

"The younger generation has the tendency of believing whatever goes viral on the social media, he said, adding that the fake messages should be identified as such.
