SRINAGAR: On the 22nd day of the ongoing Shri Amarnathji Yatra, 7665 Yatris paid obeisance at the Holy Cave, taking the number of Yatris to have had the darshan of the Shivling to 216598.

Meanwhile, a fresh batch of 2,617 pilgrims today left the base camp in Jammu to undertake the annual yatra to the shrine in South Kashmir Himalayas, officials said.

They left the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in an escorted convoy of 81 vehicles for the Kashmir Valley in the early hours and would be reaching the twin base camps of Baltal in Ganderbal and Pahalgam in Anantnag districts later in the day, the officials said.

Among the latest batch, they said 1,830 pilgrims are performing the yatra from the traditional 36 km Pahalgam track, while 787 others have chosen the shorter 12 km Baltal route.

The pilgrimage was halted for sometime on Wednesday due to inclement weather. After it resumed, over 7,000 pilgrims had paid their obeisance inside the cave shrine.

The Met had forecast cloudy sky all along the treks leading up to both Baltal and Pahalgam base camps on Thursday.

The 60-day long Yatra will end on August 26 coinciding with the Shravan Purnima festival.
