Encounter between militants and SF in north Kashmir

Srinagar, July 19: An encounter ensued between militants and security forces on Thursday afternoon in the frontier district of Kupwara, a police spokesman said.

He said security forces, Special Operation Group (SOG ) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation at Batpora, Handwara, in Kupwara district of north Kashmir this afternoon.

However, when the security forces were approaching the area they came under heavy fire from militants hiding there.

Security forces also retaliated ensuing in an encounter, he said adding further details are awaited.
